You may have noticed that the website looks a bit different now, hopefully better. That’s because I’ve just done a major re-design. The old version of the site was starting to get too busy looking and because of the amount of traffic this site now gets everything was starting to load pretty slow. I’ve switched everything over to the Genesis framework for WordPress which should help considerably with the site load time and overall make everything a lot more smooth. Plus I think the simpler design makes everything look much better as well. Things may be a little weird for the next couple of days while I try to fix all the weird little glitches and what not from switching the site over so please be patient if you see anything weird. I’ve also got a bunch of plans for the site over the next weeks and months so stay tuned for more news and thanks for all your support! (* >ω<)
So as you can see the site is suddenly a lot more awesome! I did a complete design overhaul and I think everyone will agree that everything looks much, much better. Plus a bunch of things that were broken on the previous site are now fixed. Not only is the site completely redesigned but I also did a massive overhaul of the emoticons database. I actually have an emoticons database now, it’s a giant spreadsheet and it’s pretty awesome. I removed a bunch of duplicate emoticons, fixed a bunch of broken ones since a lot of characters don’t display correctly in a lot of situations and I reworked the categories. I renamed some of the categories and added in eleven new categories: Crying, Running, Thinking, Crazy, Excited, Birds, Rabbits, Random, Characters, Clouds and a category I like to call WTF. Not only that but some of the emoticons are now in more than one category to make finding them much easier. For example (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ is in the action category since throwing a table is an action but it’s also in the angry category since you’d probably have to be pretty angry to throw a table like that. We also have an
awesome random emoticons generator! A huge thanks to Dominick for setting that up!
Oh yeah, I also added like a thousand emoticons to the site!If you suggested an emoticon to me it should be up there. I had a massive back log of emoticons to add so thanks everyone who made suggestions for being patient. If I somehow missed your suggestion send it to me again and I’ll get it added. In case you were wondering there are now 2,177 emoticons on this site. To be fair some of them are on different pages since they fit into more than one category so there’s probably closer to 2,000 unique ones but that’s still a crazy amount. So in conclusion I hope you enjoy the new and massively improved JapaneseEmoticons.net and a huge shout out to the below people for suggesting a bunch of the new emoticons I added to the site: SJ Rod Mai Chan Diab Riisu eikichionizuka69 Vargdis emiyuui Xioabear MakaLawliet MissMad Meru Bea Knemer Luis Mey Mainero Christopher Clark Greta Delpozzo AB Alis zeffire lelele bodie Annastacia bopx Automatoncreature Barry Laura Michael Kostiuk Adam Metcalfe Webmetz Pantsu Lisa lauraAmelia 4357986 Carrie Rosa Victor Ailey Rebecca Minzki Susan
The JapaneseEmoticons.net site redesign is officially complete! Thanks everyone for bearing with me while I made the updates and especially when the site went down. There was some bizarre error that happened while I was working on the site and it took me a while to figure out how to get it fixed. I’m still working on getting a Twitter feed integrated into the site but aside from that everything else is done. I’ll be adding more content and other fun stuff to the site over the next little while so be sure to keep checking back regularly. Edit: Actually I may have spoken to soon… There are still a few weird glitchy things I’m noticing but aside from that everything else is good and the site is completely usable.
