The Android App is Working Now!

April 23, 2014 By Peter Leave a Comment

It’s looking now like the Android app is fixed and everything is working! Thanks everyone for being patient while I tried to get this fixed and a huge thanks to everyone who’s left a positive review and to everyone who has edited their negative reviews to make them positive. If for any reason the app is still crashing please uninstall it completely and then reinstall it.  This has fixed the issue for several people and make sure you’ve got version 1.2 installed. If the app still crashes after uninstalling and re-installing it please click the report button after the crash and I’ll get a notification in my Android Developers account with all the information I’ll need to get someone to fix it.  That’s actually a pretty cool feature. Enjoy! ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆

The Japanese Emoticons Android App is Finally Here!

April 13, 2014 By Peter 12 Comments

Well it took way longer than I originally planned and a ton of stuff went wrong during the process but the Japanese Emoticons Android app is finally finished and available for download on Google Play! I ended up having to hire a second developer to help me finish and submit everything but everything is good now and I’m quite excited that this app is finally available. Making an Android app I’ve now learned is pretty different from making an iOS app so the Android app doesn’t match the iOS one 100% but it’s really close. So click the link below to download the app and enjoy and a final note please leave a 5-star review.  That is the absolute best way to show your support.  The more good reviews the app gets the better chance it has of people finding it.

Kaomoji and Emoji for Valentines Day

February 8, 2014 By Peter 4 Comments

Valentines Day is almost here and whether you love this day or hate it there are Japanese emoticons for you. This is actually an event where we have a ton of appropriate emoticons in our Love, Kissing and Hugging categories.  I’m not going to bother posting them all again here but I am going to point out my favourites. If you’re excited for Valentines day and you’re looking for some excellent kaomojis to text to your significant other, here are some of my favourites:   ( ´͈ ॢꇴ `͈ॢ)・*♡ (๑ˊ͈ ॢꇴ ˋ͈)〜♡॰ॱ I love how expressive the face on both these emoticons are.   (人-ω-)。o.゚。*・♡Good Night♡・*。゚o。(-ω-人) This is a very sweet emoticon to text your significant other before you fall asleep if you’re apart.   *ଘ( ॢᵕ꒶̮ᵕ(꒡ᵋ ꒡ღ)zZ‥ Here’s another sweet emoticon kissing someone who’s asleep.   (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ This is always an excellent kissing/hugging/glomping emoticon appropriate for almost any situation.   (ʃƪ ˘ ³˘) This is another really cute and sweet looking kissing emoticon.   Shy emoticons also work great for Valentines Day if you like someone and you’re really shy.   Now if you’re not looking forward to Valentines Day and all the commercialism and what not there are some excellent kaomoji that you can use too, especially when those couples you know post all kinds of Valentines Day nonsense on their Facebook pages.   (∿°○°)∿ ︵ ǝʌol (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡︵ ǝʌol (╯°□°)╯︵ ǝʌol (╯°Д°)╯︵ ǝʌol These are all variations of the table flipping emoticon but they’re perfect if you’ve had it with “love”.   ( ◜◡^)っ✂╰⋃╯ If there’s a male you’re particularly angry with then this emoticon is quite appropriate.   Any emoticon from the angry category also work perfectly when people won’t shut up about Valentines Day.   There’s also actually a bunch of Valentines Day emoji as well. Valentines Emoji From left to right in the top row you have: a church for a wedding, a love hotel, some chocolate since in Japan on Valentines Day girls give chocolates to guys they like, a wrapped heart sort of gift, a guy and girl holding hands, two guys holding hands, two girls holding hands, a kiss, a couple and two bunny girls (because why not?) From left to right in the middle row you have: a guy bowing in apology because he screwed up and didn’t get a Valentines gift for his girl, several different colours of hears, a broken heart, a growing heart, a beating heart and two hearts. On the bottom row from left tonight you have: a sparkling heart, revolving hearts, a heart pierced by an arrow, a low note, a kiss/lipstick mark, an engagement ring, a diamond and a glass of wine.

Emoji, Kaomoji and Japanese Emoticons, What’s the Difference Anyway?

November 23, 2013 By Peter 5 Comments

When people talk about Japanese emoticons they usually use words like kaomoji, emoji or just Japanese emoticons to describe them but what’s the difference and what do these words mean? “Japanese Emoticons” is a pretty broad term and doesn’t really mean anything.  Both kaomoji and emoji are Japanese emoticons since they’re both different types of emoticons that came from Japan.

Emoji

Emoji are small 12×12 pixel pictures that are used in messages in Japan.  Many Japanese phones and software have emoji built into them. They were invented in 1998 or 1999 (Wikipedia isn’t sure of the exact date… >_>) by Shigetaka Kurita. The word emoji literally means “picture letter”. Emoji have been standardized across all devices and some have even been incorporated into Unicode and can be used in places that don’t technically support emoji. Because of the Unicode standardization it’s possible to use them on iPhones or other cellphones that don’t have a Japanese carrier. You can even find emoji built into systems such as Gmail and even Apple’s Mac OSX operating system. Emoji are very Japanese, you’ll find emoticons for Japanese foods like dango, onigiri, curry or cultural things such as a traditional looking Japanese couple or a guy bowing in apology.  Here’s a screenshot of all the default emoji emoticons: All Emojis

Kaomoji

Kaomoji on the other hand is probably what most people think of when they hear Japanese emoticons. Kaomoji are the emoticons created using Japanese and other 2-byte characters that English keyboards don’t easily have access to. Kaomoji literally means “face mark” and are purely made out of text characters albeit fancier text characters than we can really type with an English keyboard. The emoticons that you’ll find on this website and app are all kaomoji emoticons.

Gettin’ Crazy! \(☆o◎)/

Now if you really want to get crazy and you’re on a device that supports both text and emoji you can combine kaomoji emoticons with emoji emoticons to make some somewhat cool looking emoticons like these: Emoji and Kaomoji Combinations This website apparently doesn’t support emoji so I had to screenshot those emoticons…  I don’t really seem to be overly creative right now either so those examples kind of suck. And now you know the difference between emoji and kaomoji Japanese emoticons!
